The National Primary Schools Chinese Story-Telling Competition 2017 is jointly organised by Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan and the Singapore Middle School Chinese Teachers’ Association, and co-organised by Ai Tong School. The competition aims to encourage students to learn and speak Mandarin with confidence as well as to preserve and promote the Chinese language and culture. Capital 95.8FM was the official supporting media partner and has been the one for the past 7 years.
Responses for this year’s competition were well-received with 77 students from 42 primary schools participated in the event. 15 students succeeded in advancing to the finals after the preliminary round on 30 Jun 17.
The finals was held on Saturday, 15 Jul 17, at Ai Tong School. Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information & Ministry of Health, Mr Chee Hong Tat graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
Participants gave their best shot through the competition and after a stiff battle among the contestants, Teoh Zhi Ling from Nan Chiau Primary School emerged as the champion with her animated narration of the story “Heirloom”. The first runner-up was awarded to Kwok Yu Qian from Ai Tong School with “Learning Chinese Is So Cool”; and second runner-up to Lin Chen from Poi Ching School with “The Most Beautiful Cat”.
