Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHHK) held its annual Chinese New Year Get-Together with a charity auction on 3 March 2018 at 6.30pm at its 5 Sennett Road premises. Guest-of-Honour for the Chinese New Year Get-Together was Mr Ng Chee Meng, Minister for Education (Schools) and Second Minister for Transport. The event will be attended by more than 600 guests consisting of SHHK members, Chinese community and business leaders, affiliated schools’ staff, partners, residents of Sennett Road estate and delegate of four benefices.
The annual celebration is an important event where close ties are renewed amongst its members, stakeholders and partners. In addition to marking the lunar New Year, the highlight of the programme was a charity auction to raise funds for four charitable organisations namely: Cheng Hong Welfare Service Society, Bo Tien Welfare Services, St. John’s Home for Elderly Persons and Muhammadiyah Welfare Home. Social service has always been one of SHHK’s core missions and SHHK would like to remember and help those who are in need as it heralded in the new Lunar Year.
Mr Tan Aik Hock, Chairman of General Affairs Committee and Organising Committee, quoted, “This is the first time we are holding a charity auction during our tuan bai. We want to extend warmth and care to those in need as we celebrate and welcome the New Year”.
The total amount raised for the charity fundraising activities was over $60,000, which includes success of bids received for the 5 pieces of crystal glass and donations by Min clans and individuals. A big thank you to all for your participation and generosity.
