The 17th Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Literary Awards cum The Hokkien Foundation Arts & Cultural Award Prize Presentation Ceremony was held on 17 August 2019 at Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan. Ms Sun Xueling, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of National Development graced the event as the Guest-of-Honour.

The Literary Awards is an annual event comprising of the following 3 awards:

1. SHHK Affiliated Primary Schools Chinese Essay Writing Competition（福建会馆属校小学生华文作文比赛）
2. National Secondary School Chinese Creative Writing Competition- Xin Lei Jiang（新蕾奖）, Chinese Creative Writing with Photography （新蕾爱拍客）& Chinese Creative Writing with Photography (IG) （新蕾即时电报）
3. Singapore Tertiary Chinese Literary Awards （大专文学奖）

Following the success of the Chinese Creative Writing with Photography Competition, the committee introduced a new “Instagram” segment to the competition, where students are able to express their creativity on social media and garner likes to win the “Most Popular Instagram Post” Award. The Singapore Tertiary Literary Awards also introduced the “Three-Line Poems” segment this year.

Apart from introducing The Hokkien Foundation Arts & Cultural Awards, the committee also invited the awards winners of Chinese Creative Writing with Photography (IG), Three-Line Poems and Han Poems to recite their winning entries on stage.
