Established in 1906, Tao Nan School was the first modern school in colonial Singapore to use Mandarin as the medium of instruction. In the early 80s, in keeping with the times, the school adopted MOE’s bilingual education policy. In 1990, Tao Nan School was accorded the Special Assistance Plan (SAP) status in view of its outstanding academic performance and rich cultural heritage. In 1996, the school became a centre for the Gifted Education Programme (GEP). Tao Nan School completed PERI upgrading in 2016 and became a single session school.

Ai Tong School was founded in 1912. In 1989, the School was appointed a Special Assistance Plan (SAP) school. Ai Tong students distinguished themselves with excellence in sports, performing arts, and in other academic and non-academic endeavours. The school underwent MOE’s Primary Education Review and Implementation (PERI) upgrading in 2014. Completed in 2016, the new facilities enabled new programmes to be conducted and further supported student development; and Ai Tong became a single-session school in 2016.

Huay Kuan pioneered an all girls’ school - Chong Hock Girls’ School, back in 1915 when very few females were given the gift of education. The school subsequently became a co-ed school and was renamed Chongfu School. With a tradition of championing inclusivity, the school is committed to providing quality education to children in the heartland. Chongfu School became a single-session school in 2012 and in 2015, the school celebrated its 100 years of rich heritage and legacy with a grand Centennial Celebration.

In 1941, the Huay Kuan set up a teachers’ training college to help address the need for locally trained teachers. The college ceased operation because of World War II in 1942 and reopened in 1947 as Nan Chiau Girls’ High School, with an affiliated primary school. In 2001, the school moved to Seng Kang and became two distinct entities: Nan Chiau High School and Nan Chiau Primary School. In 2011, Nan Chiau Primary School was included in the FutureSchools@Singapore programme. It received MOE's School Distinction Award in 2016. Nan Chiau High School was designated an SAP school in January 2012.

Kong Hwa School was established in 1953 to address the urgent need for more schools in post-war Singapore. The school was originally named after Mr Lee Kong Chian, but renamed as “Kong Hwa” upon his request. The school attained SAP status in 1992 in recognition of its promotion of bilingualism and biculturalism; and by 2008 received its first School Distinction Award. Kong Hwa School is committed to developing students holistically and helping them realise their unique potentials for academic as well as leadership excellence.
