LEAP Award 2024

Press Release

15 dedicated teachers nationwide won LEAP award

• 7 primary school, 6 secondary school and 2 special education teachers awarded
• 4 schools won their first ever LEAP Award

Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHHK) today honoured 15 exemplary teachers with the annual LEAP Award. Guest-of-Honour Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Education, presented the LEAP Award to the seven primary school teachers, six secondary school teachers and two special education teachers at the annual Teachers’ Day Appreciation Dinner cum LEAP Award Presentation Ceremony.

The LEAP Award, which stands for Listening Educator for Advancement and Progress Award, was launched by the late President S R Nathan in 2011 and awarded by SHHK annually to recognise exceptional teachers who have made a positive impact in nurturing their students from the heart. The naming of the award signifies a leap of faith for a teacher to believe that students have the potential to excel beyond their capabilities.

In his speech, Mr Thomas Chua, President of SHHK, said, “Education is a long-term endeavour and commitment. Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan has shown that, throughout our 184 years of history, we have been able to commit to the founding mission of promoting and advancing the causes of education in Singapore.”

This year, the Award received a total of 234 nominations from 154 schools – 101 primary school teachers, 108 secondary school teachers and 23 special education teachers, with each school limited to a maximum of two nominations. Four schools saw their first ever LEAP Award recipients, namely, Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore School (East), East Spring Primary School, Zhonghua Primary School and Pasir Ris Secondary School.

All nominees will receive a certificate of commendation from the organiser as a recognition of their outstanding commitment. The organiser hopes that more schools will come forward and nominate deserving teachers for the LEAP Award next year.
