Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHHK) today held its annual Spring Reception at the SHHK Building Plaza. The event saw around 300 distinguished guests, including SHHK board of governors, council, honorary council and committee members, affiliated schools’ principals and staff, Chinese clan associations leaders and representatives, in attendance to celebrate the Year of the Horse.

Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Education, Mr David Neo graced the ceremony as the Guest-of-Honour.

Mr Thomas Chua, President of SHHK, said, “The Spring Reception is more than a festive gathering. It serves as a meaningful platform for Singaporeans from all walks of life to experience the richness of local traditional Chinese culture. By bringing together heritage crafts, performances and family-friendly activities in a fair-like setting, we aim to keep these traditions alive while creating lasting community memories. We hope to inspire a deep appreciation for local Chinese culture and heritage, ensuring these cherished traditions continue to thrive for generations to come.”

This year’s Spring Reception seeks to deepen understanding and appreciation of local traditional Chinese culture by creating a vibrant and interactive Spring Festival Fair. Acting Minister David Neo visited booths featuring traditional calligraphy, rainbow calligraphy, paper cutting and dough figurine making, and even challenged himself to say New Year greetings and festive phrases in Hokkien, joining in the fun with families at the event.

Other arts and cultural highlights include a lion dance on stilts, an LED dragon performance, fishing for “luck” and parent-child Hokkien culture games.

Spring Reception is SHHK’s annual event aimed at connecting members and renewing shared ties amongst the Chinese clan association members, Chinese community and business leaders.
